Catechism

Date:

Tuesday, September 11, 2018

Time:

7:00pm

Description:

Dear congregation:
On Tuesday of next week (September 11), Catechism classes will resume with the usual groups. We look forward to a new season of growth in the knowledge of God and his saving work for us in Jesus Christ. The goal of Catechism is to give the young people of the church a clear understanding of the promises and obligations of the covenant into which they were grafted through holy baptism.
There are a few changes for this year. First of all, the consistory has requested br. Casey Dehaas to teach one Catechism group for the upcoming season. He has agreed and will be taking Group 2. Brother Dehaas has taught Catechism frequently in the past during times of vacancy and ministerial illness. He is well-equipped for this work and is looking forward to helping out. We thank him for his willingness to help in the work of instructing our covenant youth!
Because of having a second teacher, groups 1 and 2 will meet at the same time. Here is the breakdown:

1 – Grades 8 and 9 Rev. Schouten Catechism room 7:00 – 7:50
2 - Grades 10 and 11 Mr. Dehaas Nursery room 7:00 – 7:50
3 - Grade 12 and post-sec. Rev. Schouten Catechism room 8:00 – 9:00

Last year, we asked parents to hear their children’s memory work. This year, teachers will hear the memory work in class – as was the practice in previous years.
Students are requested to bring one item: a working pen! Folders or binders will be provided as will Bibles and Books of Praise.
Catechism classes will run from September 11 to the last Tuesday in April with two week breaks during the Christmas season and again during the spring break for area schools.
If you have any questions, contact your pastor.
We look forward to a good season of growing in the Lord!
Rev. Schouten and Mr. Dehaas.
